HSNT and DFW Tzus and More Rescue: Pawtners for Paws...Helping 500 Montague County Puppy Mill Dogs

HSNT Montague County Puppy Mill seizure July 7 09On JULY 7, 2009, almost 500 dogs were seized from a Montague County puppy mill. They were living in conditions that ranged from bad to horrific. The story behind the story is how a community has come together to give these dogs a new leash on life. The generousity of the DFW metroplex has been amazing. From Chesapeake Energy readying an unused warehouse over a weekend, to restaurants, businesses,  and hotels comping or heavily discounting services, to other cities helping with transport of the dogs, Petsmart Charities donating truck loads of kennels, food, bowls, and the many volunteers from across the metroplex as well as the country donating their time, it has been an uplifting experience for all involved to watch this community outpouring "all for the helpless dogs". HSNT has done the most awesome job of all. From building a case and planning the seizure to warehousing a city of dogs, their excellent planning and many hours of hard work have paid off in that the huge operation went more smoothly than anyone could have imagined.

We are especially proud of our 3 DFW Tzus EARS (Emergency Animal Rescue Service) certified volunteers who were on the scene from day one, helping to get ready for the arrival of the dogs and continuing to help with huge task of daily feeding, walking, and cleaning for 500 dogs. These volunteers have used their vacation days, put in hours after work, and taken unpaid leave.  Other DFW Tzus volunteers have also put in many hours setting up kennels and helping with other daily tasks such as cleaning and  feeding, plus  delivering linens, meals, and many other supplies to the temporary shelter. Still others have transported the HSNT dogs taken by DFW Tzus to vet clinics and are continuing to assist the clinic staffs walk and care for the dogs.

As the majority of the HSNT dogs have now been placed with Rescue groups or  adopted, the DFW Tzus volunteers are now helping to tear down and dismantle. It is both a sad and a joyful ending. Joyful to know the dogs are going into new homes where they will receive the love and affection that they deserve, but sad to be leaving the many friends made along the way.

DFWT&MR volunteers aren't skipping a beat though. Our group has once again stepped up to the task at hand and we have taken SIXTEEN of these mistreated furbabies(photos to follow soon). We will be needing additional foster homes, and donations to help with our vet expenses.  We are asking our sponsors and generous former adopters for assistance. If you can help us foster just one dog, please complete a foster/volunteer application on-line here. If you can't foster, we will be extremely grateful for your donation.
